EMDR Therapy for East Cobb Trauma, PTSD and Complex PTSD Care in Person or by Telehealth
If you live in East Cobb and you're looking for a trauma therapist, you don't have to go far. Authentic Answers is based in Alpharetta, a short drive northeast of East Cobb, and Jeremy sees people for trauma, PTSD, and Complex PTSD in person or over secure video anywhere in Georgia. One thing to get out of the way first: there's no East Cobb office. You'd either make the trip to Alpharetta or meet by video from home.
Getting Here from East Cobb
The office is at 314 Maxwell Rd, Suite 400, Alpharetta, GA 30009, in the Colony Park Offices on South Main. From most of East Cobb it's a drive northeast through Roswell, either up Roswell Road (GA-120) to Alpharetta Highway (GA-9), or over to GA-400 and north. A lot of people book around a work or school commute that already runs through north Fulton, which makes the trip easier to fit into a week.
If driving isn't practical, whether it's traffic, a schedule with no slack in it, or just feeling more settled at home, telehealth sessions run on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Jeremy will help you think through which format actually fits your situation.
Why People in East Cobb Seek EMDR
People come to EMDR after one frightening event, like a car accident or an assault. Others come after years of childhood abuse, neglect, or a controlling relationship, which is often described as Complex PTSD. Cobb County is home to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, so a lot of military families, veterans, and service members live in the area, and Authentic Answers is an in-network TRICARE provider.
The reasons people pick up the phone tend to sound like this:
- Flashbacks, nightmares, or feeling like you always have to be on guard
- Anxiety or panic that seems tied to something in your past
- Childhood trauma and the way it still shows up in relationships and self worth
- Relationship trauma, including abuse or betrayal
- Traumatic grief after a sudden or difficult loss
- Feeling disconnected, numb, or "not fully here" (dissociation)
What EMDR Therapy Involves
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy for trauma and PTSD, and it's recommended in clinical practice guidelines from organizations including the World Health Organization. It pairs bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, with brief attention on a distressing memory. The aim is to help the brain reprocess the memory so it loses some of its charge over time. If you want the longer version, Jeremy wrote a guide: What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?
Nothing gets rushed. Treatment usually moves through four broad stages:
- History and treatment planning. Together you map out what you've been through and decide what to work on first.
- Preparation and stabilization. You learn grounding and coping tools before any processing begins. With Complex PTSD this stage often takes longer, and that's on purpose.
- Active reprocessing. Using bilateral stimulation, you work through target memories at a pace you can tolerate.
- Integration. You look at what has shifted and build on the new beliefs and coping skills.
Everyone responds differently, and no therapist can guarantee a particular result. Jeremy will be straight with you about what to expect.
If weekly trips aren't realistic, EMDR intensives, which are longer sessions over a few days, can make the distance from East Cobb much easier to manage.
