Concerns That Bring People In

Trauma looks different from person to person. It might be a single shock, like a violent incident or a frightening diagnosis, that the mind keeps circling back to. It might be the slow accumulation of a hard childhood or a relationship marked by fear, the pattern often described as Complex PTSD. Military families, veterans, and service members can use in-network TRICARE coverage at Authentic Answers.

Common starting points include:

The Shape of EMDR Treatment

EMDR is an eight-phase psychotherapy developed for trauma, and it appears in treatment guidelines from groups such as the World Health Organization. While you briefly focus on a difficult memory, you track eye movements or feel alternating taps. This bilateral stimulation is meant to help the memory get reprocessed and stored in a less charged way. Jeremy explains the method step by step in his introduction to EMDR therapy.

Treatment begins with getting to know your history and choosing targets together. Next comes preparation, where you practice ways to settle your nervous system; with Complex PTSD, this phase deliberately gets more time. Reprocessing follows at a tolerable pace, and closing sessions focus on integrating what has shifted. There is no guaranteed outcome, and Jeremy will give you an honest read on what to expect.

If spreading sessions across many months is hard to manage, ask about EMDR intensives, which concentrate the work into longer blocks.
